5 Amazing Oils for Natural Hair Health| MIELLE

Nature is full of the essentials we need to care for our hair. For centuries, people have been mixing up concoctions made up of things straight from the plants and trees around them to care for their mane. In today’s blog, we have put together a list of nourishing oils, including those that make up our various collections, that encourage healthy hair and will help you maintain beautiful hair.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil has so many things going for it, but the most obvious feature is its amazing scent. The cooling effect that you feel when it's applied – when diluted in a carrier oil – is an instant relaxant, but also leaves your scalp feeling refreshed. Peppermint is also a natural antiseptic, which assists in preventing and treating scalp issues like dryness, itchiness, and dandruff. Best of all, it helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp, which is important as this is the way our hair follicles are nourished. Increased blood flow in that area is a plus for encouraging healthy hair.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is likely one of the most popular carrier oils, since it’s lighter than most, and therefore can be used on a wide range of textures as well as on the scalp without causing too much buildup. It contains vitamin E and proteins, which keep breakage and shedding at bay and works great as a sealant. We’ve got all these components, plus the benefits of peppermint oil, wrapped up in our Mint Almond Oil! It makes a great choice for battling dry scalp as well as for the final step in your moisturizing routine.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil penetrates the hair shaft and is high in monounsaturated fatty acids – or the “good” fats that make it an amazing natural moisturizer – helping to heal dry, brittle hair and dry scalp. Like almond oil, it contains proteins, which strengthen the hair, as well as high levels of antioxidant vitamin E, which helps prevent hair loss and promote healthy hair. No wonder our Moisturizing Avocado Hair Milk is a fave among those who suffer from dry, thirsty hair. Check out our article on the benefits of avocado to learn more!

Babassu Oil

This is an oil we may not have heard much about until recent years, but the benefits will have you running for our Babassu Collection.

Closely related to coconut oil, babassu oil comes from the fruit of palms found in Brazil. It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly into the hair shaft, and contains anti-inflammatory properties. Like avocado oil, babassu oil is great for treating brittle hair, a common complaint among many with textured hair. Our Babassu Oil Sulfate-Free Shampoo is so effective due to the moisturizing benefits of this oil in addition to its foaming power. Hair is left clean, yet soft and moisturized, not stripped.

Mongongo Oil

Derived from the nut of the Manketti or Mongongo tree, mongongo oil is a rich emollient known to be extremely useful for both skin and hair, providing shine and vibrance in addition to its restorative properties. Thanks to its acidic properties, mongongo oil, when used on the skin or scalp, helps reduce inflammation and also acts as a natural sunscreen for both the hair and skin.

In short, mongongo oil’s polyunsaturated fatty acids, coupled with vitamin E, help protect the hair from the damaging effects of extreme heat, be it from the sun or heat styling tools. This is what makes our Mongongo Oil Collection the go-to for the prep and maintenance of heat styles like blow-outs. From the Pre-Shampoo Treatment to the Style Setting Spray, you’re covered from beginning to end.

As you can see, we’ve taken great care to make sure our products contain only the best ingredients to help your hair reach its full potential. Which of the collections is your favorite? What are some other oils you like to use in your hair care regimen?
